The First Few Days Were Mostly About Understanding the Routine

There was no major incident when the guards started their duty on 1 September. The initial days were mainly about understanding the society, its residents, regular visitors and the working routine.

Every residential society has its own way of functioning. Some residents return early, while others come home late at night. Some visitors are regular and already known to residents, while others may be visiting for the first time.

The guards therefore had to understand the difference between being familiar with someone and simply assuming that everyone entering the gate was safe.

This is where proper communication became important.

Late-Night Entry Created a Small Challenge

One of the practical challenges we noticed in the beginning involved residents returning home late at night.

As part of the security procedure, residents arriving late were stopped at the gate and checked before being allowed to enter the society. Initially, some residents did not like this.

The agency has to maintain coordination between the client, guards and residents.

In my view, this coordination is one of the most important parts of running a security agency.

Security Is a Team Responsibility

A residential security system works properly only when everyone understands their role.

The guard has to remain alert and follow instructions. The agency has to supervise the deployment and support the guard. The client has to communicate its requirements clearly. Residents also need to cooperate with reasonable security procedures.

No single person can create a good security system alone.

Our experience at (Client - S......S........E) has shown us that even a simple process such as checking a resident arriving late at night can become smoother when everyone understands why the procedure exists.

What We Want to Improve Going Forward

Our first deployment has also given us several ideas about improving our own working system.

We want to maintain better communication with our guards, keep proper records, respond to client concerns quickly and make sure that the guards have the basic support they need to perform their duties properly.

We also believe that supervision should not be limited to asking whether a guard attended duty. The agency should understand what is happening at the site.

That means listening to the client, speaking with the guard and occasionally visiting the deployment location.
